{Wine and Love} Four.
Things that are making me reach for that bottle of wine…
… Oh my dear Lord! THE WEATHER! What is Mother Nature smoking?? It’s mid-May! Let’s get some sun out here! Although supposedly it’s supposed to be really nice this weekend. But still. I understand the occasional rainy day, but this week-long deluge is ridiculous.
… My A1c. While it didn’t suck - and it actually improved from last time – I’m still not happy with it. OK, for the non-D folks in the room, the A1c is sort of like a status update of how a person with diabetes is doing overall. My “status” is slightly better than it was last time, which is good. But it wasn’t as good as I thought it would be, which means I still have a lot to work on. Also: A1c is the benchmark for whether or not a woman with diabetes can safely get pregnant. If the A1c is too high, that causes big problems for the baby (this is also why non-D women get tested for gestational diabetes – same idea, only I already have diabetes). A person without diabetes has an A1c of around 5%, my current A1c was 7.6% (down from 7.8%). To have a baby, I need to be somewhere in the 6% range. They aren’t big numbers, but it takes a lot of work to drop even .1%.
… My apartment. It’s a mess. It needs a really good scrub and organization overhaul. We just brought in two bins from our storage unit last weekend, and that’s great, but now that means I have more stuff to figure out where to store.
… Registering for our gifts. It’s HARD! Specifically picking out china. I must have deleted and re-added our china pattern about twelve times. I kept reading about other china patterns on my wedding message board. It was crazy. Everything about this wedding is so dramatic. Is it July yet? So I finally found a thread on the message board that was comparing the two china patterns that *I* was comparing. And the one that we had originally picked was the winning china pattern on that thread! Yay! I felt so validated. But seriously. It drove me mad. I am so glad we’re done registering.
… Debt. I’m still in it. I totally screwed up my weekly allowance, so I’ve had to put several purchases on my credit card until I can figure things out. It really frustrates me that I can be so stupid with money sometimes. Seriously, folks, if you don’t have a credit card, don’t get one.
Things that are making me love this week…
…
I saw Harry Potter Daniel Radcliffe who plays Harry Potter on Broadway last night! My friend Cara is in town and we always see a show together when she’s here. In fact, I pretty much only see shows when she’s here! Anyway, he’s starring in How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. It was very cute. Nothing life changing, but very good. I saw the play when my high school did it, but I think my high school must have edited the script because this time it seemed a little… raunchier. I don’t know. But boy, Daniel Radcliffe has some mad dance skills! He was really cutting a rug!
… I FOUND THE SHOES. I know, I KNOW. I didn’t think it was possible either. But considering how traumatizing the whole process has been, I feel it is necessary to write a separate blog post about the shoes, so look for that soon.
… I have also figured out what to do with my insulin pump! Which I will tell you all about… later. In another post. Sorry. But it’s a good plan! One that you will be amazed by! I AM A GENIUS.
… Speaking of insulin pumps, I had my first dress fitting on Friday. Even though I knew I had lost weight, seeing how a dress that was supposed too small for me is now almost too big for me was really, really cool! No alterations are needed just yet, but in another month, they might need to take the dress in a bit.
… NYC Diabetes Meet-ups! Every May, when Cara is in town, I host a little meet-up which usually involves a dozen or so people. We are meeting at a favorite restaurant in Times Square on Saturday for brunch, and if you live in NYC or the surrounding areas and want to meet a bunch of awesome folks with dysfunctional pancreases, please let me know! I’ll give you the location once you RSVP (it’s not just one of my quirks – we have to have a head count, so you can’t just show up!).

There’s so much good stuff here, Allison! Daniel Radcliffe! Shoes! The wedding dress solution! The getting-big wedding dress! What a fun update to read. (And I totally here you up the AIC and the apartment needing a good deep clean. I think we’re leading parallel lives. Except you got to see Daniel Radcliffe, lucky you!)
Yay shoes! Can’t wait for more deets!
So glad you found the shoes!
And registering? Even though we are way early and have plenty of time, it’s a little bit harder than I thought. And kind of exhausting, too.
Thanks for joining again this week; love your perspective on everything. Reading your blog always make me happy!
Awww, that is so sweet! And boy, registering is so much pressure. I kept thinking how much money other people were spending on me and I just had to make sure everything was worth it! Especially china. Because that stuff is hard to buy over again if you don’t like what you picked.
Man you have so much going on! I can’t wait to hear about your pump and the dress. Congrats on the weight loss!! Good luck with everything going on!
I can’t wait to share it too! Though I realized that I probably won’t actually write about it until after the wedding. I want to be able to share pictures, and I can’t before the wedding! Oops.
So glad you found the shoes!
