The Results Are In!
I really, really enjoyed reading through all the Bloggy Reviews that were sent to me last week. I had a total of 31 people respond and I greatly appreciate that you took the time to answer a few questions for me. As promised, I’m going to share some of the results and what I plan to do with them in 2012.
What you want me to write about:
- Personal thoughts on life / issues
Almost three-quarters (!) of you told me that you wanted me to write more about my personal thoughts on life and issues. That’s a pretty open-ended topic obviously, but coming on the heels of On Being an “It” Girl, I’m hardly surprised that there are requests for more things like that. I had no idea that post was going to take off like it did. Other posts I have written on life and struggles I’ve had do similarly well, but they are a challenge to write because they involve baring your soul to a mixed audience of family, friends and complete strangers. My goal is to work on more essays on issues I’m passionate about and to share more observations about life, rather than simply writing a recap style blog.
- Diabetes
Almost two-thirds of you said you like my posts about diabetes, and 29% of you said I don’t write about it enough. Fair enough, this is true. With my day job being all diabetes, all the time, it’s a struggle for me to write about it over here at Lemonade Life. Even before working for DiabetesMine, I slowed down my discussion of diabetes because I found my own diabetes life a little boring. But with your encouragement, I’m going to invest some more energy into this topic. Those of you who don’t have an interest in diabetes, you’ll just have to deal with the occasional mention of the Big D.
- Traveling and New York City
Half of you told me you like my traveling blog posts, which is surprising because my travel posts don’t usually get that many comments on them. But I suppose I enjoy reading the travel posts of others too! I have plenty of travel coming up in 2012 and I fully intend to blog all of it, so no worries there! New York City also falls under Traveling as a subcategory, and I certainly plan to blog about the Big Apple every change I get. If there is anything in particular you’re curious about, however, please let me know!
- Fitness / weight loss
This was a popular topic for me early this year when I was working on losing weight for my wedding, but my Weekly Weigh-Ins have slowed in recent months. I am definitely hoping that I’ll be back on this bandwagon come 2012 (and after my Vegas trip!) so you’ll have plenty to look forward to if this is your cup of tea.
- Advice, tips & how-tos, Faith & Religion, and Book Reviews
Of the remaining topics, these stood out to me as interesting topics that I wasn’t necessarily expecting people to be so interested in. First, I’ve never really written many advice columns or how-to posts before, so I think this is more of a want than a current like. Faith and religion is also not a topic I have touched on, except for a brief mention when I got my tattoo last summer. Certainly something I’ve been meaning to share, and now that I know there’s at least some demand, I’ll move that up the list of potential topics. Book Reviews were ranked higher than Movie Reviews, which I found interesting. I definitely enjoy doing Book Reviews, but I don’t read as much as I would like so it makes it difficult to do those with any frequency or regularity. Perhaps that will change in the New Year!
What you don’t want me to write about:
- Memes
Wow. Who knew? Considering how common they are in the blogosphere, I was surprised to see that 45% don’t like the Memes. Well, I can understand that, since I don’t particularly care to read them either. But I do use them occasionally to help keep my post schedule somewhat regular. I know I should rely on them as heavily as I do at times, so I will work on making them a little less frequent. But they are unlikely to go away completely…
- Movie Reviews
Wow. One third of people don’t like the Movie Reviews! Why is that? Well, I write Movie Reviews as part of tracking the 101 movies I’m watching for my 101 Things list, so they are unlikely to vanish any time soon. But I will try to not wait so long in between reviews so that I’m not doing back-to-back Friday Film Reviews. Maybe there’s something I can do to make them more interesting… Any thoughts?
- Book Review and Faith & Religion
Both of these came in at around 20% of the vote, and I’m unlikely to spend too much of my time writing about either of these topics. The other topics that were listed were not heavily voted on, so I would say for the most part, everyone likes what I write about or just wants to me to write more. Yay!
Suggestions for Topics
- Marriage
This came up a few times in the comments section of my blog, and at first, I was really hesitant about it. For the longest time, my blog has been about, well, me. My thoughts on my life, my thoughts on what I’m doing, with occasional cameos by friends and family. But it’s never been so intently focused on another individual. However, I discussed this with my husband, and he actually think me blogging about our marriage is a good thing. Wow! Color me shocked. He says that it’s so common for folks to not discuss marriage to think everyone is having a really easy time with things, but in reality, that’s not true (at least not always). I have a lot of readers who are either married or in a relationship and it would be good for us to have feedback from others. You might never hear the full story of things (some stuff has to be kept private!) but you might see marriage posts popping up every once in awhile.
- Friendship
This has always been a difficult topic for me. Not to write about, but to live. I don’t have that many close friends, and most of my close friends are people I know online. That can make things difficult socially and in day-to-day life. Working at home all the time doesn’t help matters either. I definitely have plenty to say on this topic, so I plan to revisit a few things in 2012.
Overall, I found the Bloggy Review very illuminating and I’m so glad I did it and I’m even gladder you took the time to help me out with it! If you have any more feedback or thoughts, feel free to comment or write me an email about what you’re thinking. This is definitely a blog about my life, but I also want to make sure that what I’m writing is helpful or interesting or entertaining in some way!
Here’s to a blog-worthy 2012!

Sounds like you got some great feedback! I’ve recently been wondering if my blog should head in a new direction, but I don’t know where to begin. Maybe this can be an inspiration to me?
Cool! What kind of “new direction” are you thinking?
I am totally going to do a blog survey as well! I love this idea and think it gives great feedback on what your readers like and dislike, as well as what they want to know more about!
Sometimes it can be hard relying just on comments to give you a sense of what is resonating. You should definitely do one. I’m thinking I’ll do this once a year.
Sorry I’m behind reading on blogs and didn’t get to do your blog review survey. Sounds like you got a lot of good feedback anyways! I like your last sentence since I need to blog more and will make that a goal for 2012!
No worries! If you have anything you want to add, you can always shoot me an email privately. I love your blog and look forward to reading more from you!
